The nettle-viper

"Of steppe-vipers: Seemingly everywhere in the north you will find the beast, the snake which is also called the thread-otter. It is no snake of Hesinde, because it uses a strong poison. But it is by far not so dangerous as the Otter of Boron or the spitting cobra."

Nettle-vipers in a game:

The nettle-viper is a species deliberately taken from the wide selection of poisoning snakes in Arkania. It it at most 2 steps long and so thin, you may always take it in whole cross-section with your hand. (But you should rather try this on a dead sample !) The viper is living in the northern Arkanian steppes and its nourishment are small rodents. Humans are usually no nourishment to the snake, but if it feels threatened, anything can happen. Even more often a horse will be nervous because of a passing viper.

* If a viper hits a hero and succeeds and the hero suffers damage points bigger than 0, there is chance of a poison injection (33%, i.e. 5 or 6 on a D6), which infers 1D20 additional damage points.

The rat

"Of rats: They are a horrible race, those rats, a plague upon our countries. And you find them everywhere: in the cities, on farms, in the Borongreen, in forests and in caves and even in swamps and ships they have been seen.

They own a fur of very mixed colours, a pointed snout and sharp teeth as well as a disgusting naked tail. They eat whatsoever they find, may it be your corn, your cattle or yourself. They just cannot stop, if you do nothing against it. You will always find them in a mass leaded by their rat prince, but their superior god is the Nameless himself, because he liketh them."

Rats in a game

Rats are always found in a pack of about 1D20 or more animals and they do not attack very often, only if they are in a huge tumult or driven into narrow corners. If they attack they always hit unprotected parts of the body, so no armour helps against them. Hit points are always damage points.

In a fight against rats, a hero always has to subtract 3 points from his attack, because the animals are so small.

The Khom vulture

"Of the Khomian lamb-vulture: It is nothing than a hideous creature and robber, this thing which dresses up like eagle or falcon, but liketh plundering dead bodies and attacketh the lonely wanderer on his desperate march through the heat of the desert Khom. And you seemingly find it everywhere along its harsh edges, and wherever you find a dead man."

Khom vultures in a game

The Khom vulture is omnivorous and it takes what it needs. If hunger drives it, it will be ferocious enough to attack a lonely human being, but you will rather find them defending its booty. Khom vultures mostly hunt as couples and they are very keen on what they find.

A first attack is always a dive from the height, pointing at the same time with nose and claws at the target. Such an attack can only be avoided or parried by a test of AGILITY+3. Only then the hero may begin to attack the vulture himself. After every attack of the bird you have to decide by a roll of a D6 if the vulture rises again to try a new nose-dive (i.e. each even number on the D6) or tries to fight in a bird-to-man combat. The odd number you rolled gives the number the vulture stays down to earth before it rises again to have another try.

Every second value is for the fight on the floor. A vulture attacks with claw and nose together in a nose-dive.

The giant cayman

"Of the crocodyle, and cayman and allygators, too: Four to six steps they might span, but they are only found in the south. The traveller shall be warned from these countries of the noon, because they are hideous and always attack your back. Their teeth are capable of tearing a leg from your body in one go and their skin is more resistant than leather and even sharp steel may not easily cut it."

Giant caymans in a game

This kind of crocodiles is living in swamps and rivers in southern Arkania. The cayman is a carnivore and everything that trespasses onto its shores is a potential meal for it. It may well happen that two caymans attack each other because of such an appeal, so that the booty itself may escape. It will always attack with its giant mouth, only in fights against more than one invader it will also use its tail.

Against more than one enemy the cayman has the opportunities of two attacks per fighting turn, 1 by tail and 1 by mouth.
